How Study USA Insurance Works

Overview
Study USA insurance is an excellent student health insurance for international students studying in the U.S. You can obtain an instant quote and/or purchase on this web site. The insurance coverage can start as early as the next day or any future date you specify. As soon as you make a purchase, you will receive confirmation of insurance and your i.d. card in your email. No physical cards will be mailed to you for this international student medical insurance.

What is covered and not covered?
The insurance company will generally pay for new medical conditions, injuries (caused either by accidents or otherwise) or sicknesses that occur after the effective date of the policy. It does not cover any expenses related to pre-existing conditions (waiting period applies for coverage), preventive check ups or immunizations. As long as the person is not already pregnant as of the effective date, it will cover maternity just like any other eligible medical expenses.

Prescription drugs are covered just like any other eligible medical expenses.
Dental is not covered. Consider a low cost plan from CAREINGTON that provides excellent coverage.

Study USA-Healthcare provides coverage as long as you are full time international student taking classes in the U.S. Study USA-Healthcare meets the requirements of most universities for international students on F-1 visa.

How do I use the insurance?
Please look at the detailed description.

How much is covered?
As long as you first visit the student health center, you don't have to pay any deductible. If your university doesn't have any student health insurance, as long as you visit the providers within MultiPlan PPO network, you don't have to pay the deductible either. Otherwise, you have to pay $50 deductible per incident in network or $150 deductible outside the network.
For Dr. visits, you have to pay $10 co-pay. For emergency room visit, you have to $50 co-pay. For all other eligible expenses, insurance company will pay 80% for first $25,000, you pay 20% (that is $5,000 out of pocket maximum). After that, insurance company pays 100% up to the selected policy maximum, either $200,000 (Plan A) or $250,000 (Plan B).

Example:
Let’s assume that you have purchased Plan A ($200,000 policy maximum) for 6 months.
  • Let's assume that the doctor charges you $150/visit and you need to visit 4 times.

If you visit the student health center first or if you visit the providers in the MultiPlan PPO network (if your university does not have any student health center), you will have to pay $10 co-pay for each visit. That is, maximum $40 out of your pocket.

Otherwise, you will have to pay $50 deductible in network or $150 deductible outside the network. Then $10 co-pay for each visit. That is, maximum $90 out of your pocket in network and $190 out of your pocket outside the network

  • Let’s assume that you were in an accident and are hospitalized for 4 days. The hospital charges $10,000 per day for a total bill of $40,000. Assuming this is the first instance of your needing to use the insurance, you pay your $50 deductible plus $5,000 (20% of first $25,000) and the insurance company will pay the rest.
